Why MORE Exists
Across newsrooms and screens worldwide, African stories have often been filtered through outside voices. MORE was created to close that gap and to give representation a permanent home.
The Founder’s Journey
Semantics King Jr., a journalist whose career began in West Africa as a young reporter, founded MORE. He founded a human rights newspaper at the Buduburam refugee camp in Ghana. Before becoming a refugee, he hosted a community talk show on Stone FM 105 in Harbel, Liberia. In 2006, the World Press Institute (WPI) named him a Permanent Journalism Fellow. His path has taken him across Liberia, Ghana, Canada, and the United States, and he now builds MORE from the Twin Cities in Minnesota.
That journey, from a community radio station to a refugee camp and then to a global fellowship, shapes everything MORE does. That is why we insist on local voices first, and why we treat storytelling as empowerment, not just reporting.
